Submitting Your Document Authentication Request to the Ethiopian Embassy
Follow these steps to submit your document authentication request online.
Complete the Online Application Form
filling out the document authentication application form with accurate information and uploading all required documents as instructed.
Prepare the Required Documents.
The original document must be legalized by the U.S. State Department for U.S.-issued documents or by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia for Ethiopian-issued documents. A copy of an identification document must also be included, which can be an Ethiopian Passport, Ethiopian Origin ID Card, U.S. Green Card, or U.S. Driver’s License.
Payment (Money Order Only)
Applicants with an Ethiopian Passport or Ethiopian Origin ID Card must submit a $59 money order, while all other applicants must submit a $90 money order. The payment must be made payable to the Ethiopian Embassy. Cash, debit cards, credit cards, and personal checks are not accepted.
Submitting Your Application
can be done by either dropping off or mailing your documents to the Ethiopian Embassy at 3506 International Dr NW, Washington, DC 20008. The submission must include the confirmation page from the online application, the original document, the money order, and a prepaid return envelope.
Processing Your Document
will be handled by the Embassy, which will review your request. If approved, the authenticated document will be mailed back using your prepaid return envelope.
Important Notes
If any document is missing, the Embassy will reject your request and notify you by email. Common reasons for rejection include
- missing legalization from the U.S. State Department or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia,
- When attaching a document copy to the system, only include the cover page /the State Department authentication page/ and the original document that requires authentication. There is no need to attach the entire document. Ensure that the attached pages are clear, complete, and properly scanned to avoid any delays in processing
- mismatched application information with the identification document, or an improperly filled-out application form.
